Privacy Policy

We collect information in two ways: information you provide directly, and information collected automatically when you use the site.

Information you provide

• Account data: When you register, we collect your username and email address. We store your password in hashed form and never in plain text.
• Contributions: Lyrics, translations, line annotations, and comments you submit are stored and publicly displayed on the platform.
• Contact messages: If you reach out via our contact form, we retain the message content and the email address you provide.

Information collected automatically

• Usage data: Pages visited, search queries, and song view counts (used only in aggregate to surface trending content).
• Cookies: We set a single authentication cookie containing a signed JSON Web Token (JWT) when you log in. This cookie is used solely to keep you signed in and expires when you log out or after a set period of inactivity.
• Advertising data: We use Google AdSense to display ads. Google may set its own cookies and collect data according to its own privacy policy. See the Google Privacy Policy for details.

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account and authenticate your sessions.
• Display your contributions (lyrics, translations, annotations) on the platform and credit them to your username.
• Calculate and display your contributor points on your public profile.
• Send transactional emails (e.g., password reset) when you request them. We do not send unsolicited marketing emails.
• Improve the platform — understanding which songs and features are used most helps us prioritize development.
• Serve relevant advertisements through Google AdSense to support the free operation of the site.

We do not sell your personal data to any third party.

Wikimizik is a community-built archive. Everything you contribute — song lyrics, translations, line annotations, and comments — is published publicly under your chosen username. Please do not include personal information (phone numbers, addresses, etc.) inside contribution fields.

If you need to remove a contribution you made, contact us at the address in the “Contact” section below and we will process your request.

We use the following types of cookies:

• Authentication cookie (essential): A JWT cookie that keeps you logged in. Without it the site cannot remember your session. You can clear it at any time by logging out.
• Advertising cookies (Google AdSense): Google places cookies to personalise ads based on your browsing activity. You can opt out of personalised advertising via Google Ads Settings.

Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking the authentication cookie will prevent you from logging in.

Wikimizik uses the following third-party services:

• Google AdSense — advertising network. Governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
• Cloudinary — image hosting for artist photos. Images are stored on Cloudinary's servers. Governed by the Cloudinary Privacy Policy.
• YouTube / SoundCloud / Spotify embeds — some lyrics pages include embedded players. Loading these players may allow those platforms to set their own cookies.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party services.

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion of your account, we will remove your personal information (email, password hash) within 30 days. Contributions attributed to your username may remain on the platform in anonymised form to preserve the integrity of the archive.

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information — including hashed passwords, HTTPS for all traffic, and server-side JWT validation. However, no system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security of data transmitted over the internet.

If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.

Wikimizik is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete it promptly.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your personal data.
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of Wikimizik after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
