[Verse 1]
M ap renmen w lè w lèd, lè w bel, lè w strese
Lè w tris, lè w rich menm lè w pa gon goud
M ap renmen w lè w vieille, lè w fache, lè w peste,
Lèw pedi M ap mennenw menm le pa gen wout
M ap avèw lèw frèt, lè w vid, lè w down
M ap leve tèt ou lè w tèt anba
E M ap avè w lè w raz, lè w dwol, lè w malad,
Lè w seul menm lè w pa gon moun
(M ap renmen w)
M ap renmen w jan w ye
M renmen w kounya e pou valè tan w vle
Menm nan bonè w menm nan mizè w
M ap toujou avè w mwen pap chanje w
M ap manje bouch ou lè n pa gen souper
M ap renmen chalè w Lè van pa soufle
E Le nou swaf, pou dlo nan kò w soulaje mwen
M ap renmen w lè w pap ret sou mwen,
Lè w ak règ ou w an kolè
M ap ret prè w menm lè w pap vle wè m
M ap renmen w lè w pral kesyone m de entèl
Sou rimè ke w tande menm lè w pap vle kwè
M ap renmen w lè w pa pre m
M ap renmen w menm lè n pa gen papye
M ap avè w nan malè bonè, richès mizè
Pour le meilleur et pour le pire

For Mom

That voice in your head isn't your conscience. It's your mother, whispering "Pitit mwen, sa a w'ap fè la a?" Reminding you that you're better than this. Telling you to dust yourself off and finish what you started. Urging you to be as great as she knows you were destined to be. Because that's what mothers do. She always knows best and always wants the best for you. Whether your mother is a short drive away, a phone call away, or in heaven watching down, these songs remind us that the our greatest...

Songwriter's Corner: Roody Laforest

"Cheri, mwen konnen m pa ase." That's what Roody Laforest sings on his debut single, Mwen Pa Ase. It takes an honest man to admit his shortcomings. But after chatting with the Montreal-based singer, we realized though Roody tells it like it is, he can be a little too hard on himself. Wikimizik talked to him about his musical roots and writing process. We hope you enjoy his straight talk as much as we did. Who is Roody? How am I supposed to answer this question? Let's make it short...

Rapping our History From Dessalines to Martelly

Tomorrow, we celebrate the Haitian flag's 211th anniversary. We have a lot to be proud of. And a lot to think about. Many songs fit the occasion. Would we feature a nostalgic ode like Jacques Sauveur Jean's Ayiti Cheri and MikaBen's Ayiti Se? Or poignant reality checks like BelO's Detripay? Kumbaya...

BIOGRAPHY

  • Songwriter's Corner: Jean Winer Pascal | Part 2

We're back with Part 2 of our interview with Jean Winer Pascal. Here, he breaks down song concepts and individual lines from some of his work for Beethova Obas, BélO and Emeline Michel. Songs with Beethova: Jwèt Mab - Beethova Obas On this song, you compare love to a game of marbles, what sparked that idea? When I was about fourteen, I loved to play marbles and I was good at it. I remember playing against...

    Five Diaspora Winter Anthems

A few weeks ago, all 50 states reached freezing temperatures. The Polar vortex may be gone, but most of us still can't feel our toes. Since humans can't hibernate, staying in and hunkering down is only a temporary fix. Plus, we have to brave the cold to pay those bills. Good thing, we have music to warm our souls. Quite a few Haitian artists have migrated to the States, Canada, and Europe. They've all experienced the winter blues and expressed their lingering homesickness in song. Here are a few of our favorites. They're a potent cocktail of frustration and nostalgia. We'd cry,...
